The Liberty Head Dollar, best known as the Morgan Dollar, was minted from 1878 to 1904, and then again in 1921.
It is referred to as the Morgan Dollar in tribute to its designer, George T. Morgan.
Over 500,000,000 were minted, but in 1918 the Pittman Act decreed that more than 270,000,000 be melted.
The Morgan Dollar is by far the most collected of all United States coins.
